01Summary

FocusTake records a browser tab, entire screen, or application window that you select through Chrome's sharing dialog. Browser Tab recordings can add auto zoom, cursor smoothing, optional tab audio, and an optional camera overlay.

Recording, editing, and export happen on your device. FocusTake does not upload your recordings or project media to our servers, and you do not need an account to record or export. Separate account, payment, license, and support data is processed by this website as described below.

02Chrome access and idle behavior

FocusTake declares access to all URLs (the <all_urls> host permission) and statically registers a content script at document_start. Chrome therefore loads a small part of the extension on each matching webpage that Chrome allows the extension to access, starting while the document is loading.

When you are not recording, that script does not install the listeners used to capture clicks, pointer movement, scrolling, selection, or keyboard activity. It waits for an eligible Browser Tab recording and is not used to build a history of your general browsing, profile you, or target advertising.

The extension also uses the scripting permission to coordinate recording features, storage for settings and project state, and unlimitedStorage so large local recordings are not constrained by the normal extension storage quota. Chrome may show an access warning for these capabilities.

03Data processed during recording

FocusTake processes the video source you select in Chrome's sharing dialog. A Browser Tab recording can also process optional tab audio and, if you enable it, camera video.

While an eligible Browser Tab recording is active, FocusTake processes the page URL and URL changes, cursor movement, clicks, scrolling, selection, target-element metadata, and keyboard activity labels. This interaction data is used to create zoom segments and cursor motion in your project. For ordinary typed characters, FocusTake records a generic character marker rather than the text you typed.

04Local storage and files

FocusTake uses Chrome extension storage for settings, local license state, and small pieces of project state; IndexedDB for structured project data and local working data; and the Origin Private File System (OPFS) for large raw recording media and related working files. These stores are local to the extension on your Chrome profile.

Export can create temporary local files while FocusTake assembles the selected output format. An interrupted export can leave working data until FocusTake runs cleanup or you clear the extension's data. The completed export is saved to the location you choose and is then controlled through your operating system.

You can delete downloaded exports through your operating system. To remove extension-managed projects, raw media, IndexedDB data, OPFS files, settings, and temporary files, use available FocusTake cleanup controls or clear FocusTake's extension data in Chrome. Removing the extension also removes extension-managed local data. Clearing this data can remove the stored device identifier and may cause a later license check to count the browser as a new device.

05Accounts and Google sign-in

You can create an account on this website to buy and manage a Pro license. Account sign-in uses "Sign in with Google" and requests only your basic profile and email address. When you sign in, Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with us.

We store your name, email address, profile picture URL, and account identifier, along with the authentication tokens needed to keep you signed in. A session record includes your IP address and browser user-agent for security. We use this information to create and secure your account, show which account is signed in, and link your purchases and Pro licenses to you.

FocusTake's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google account data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we share it only with the service providers needed to operate the service, such as our database host and payment processor.

06Purchases and Stripe

Pro is currently sold as a one-time purchase processed by Stripe. Stripe receives the account name and email needed to create or reuse a customer record and handles payment information directly. We do not receive or store your full card number.

We store the Stripe customer identifier, the selected price, purchase status, and internal purchase and webhook records needed to issue the license and prevent duplicate processing.

07Pro licenses and device activation

When FocusTake verifies or activates Pro, the extension sends the license key, a persistent randomly generated deviceId, and a deviceLabel to our license API. The current deviceLabel is derived from the first 64 characters of the browser's user-agent string. The request also exposes ordinary network metadata, including the IP address and HTTP user-agent, to our server.

We store the license and device association, deviceId, deviceLabel, creation and last-seen times, and, for a new-device activation, an activation record containing the IP address and user-agent. We use these records to validate the license, enforce its device limit, secure the service, and support device resets. License verification does not send your recordings or recorded interaction data.

08Support requests

If you submit the support form, we store the email address, subject, and message you provide. We also store the request IP address and browser user-agent for security and abuse prevention and, if you are signed in, associate the request with your account.

09How we use and share data

We use server-side data only to operate accounts, process purchases, issue and verify licenses, prevent abuse, respond to support requests, and meet legal or accounting obligations. We do not sell personal information or recording data, use it for advertising, or use webpage activity to profile your browsing.

We share data only with providers needed to operate these functions, such as Google for sign-in, Stripe for payment processing, and our database and hosting providers. They process data under their own terms and applicable data-processing commitments. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect users, FocusTake, or the public.

Account, license, payment, and support requests sent to FocusTake are transmitted over HTTPS. FocusTake's use and transfer of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

The website does not currently include a product analytics or crash-reporting SDK. Hosting infrastructure may process standard request logs. If we add analytics, crash reporting, cloud recording, or another new server-side use, we will update this policy before or when that processing begins.

10Retention and your choices

We retain account, purchase, license, activation, and support records for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain security and license history, resolve disputes, and meet legal or accounting requirements. Different record types may be kept for different periods.

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information associated with your account by contacting us below. We may need to verify your identity, and we may retain limited records where the law or a legitimate security, fraud-prevention, accounting, or dispute-resolution need requires it.

11Changes to this policy

We will update this policy if FocusTake or our data practices change. Material changes will be reflected by the date above and, where practical, by reasonable additional notice.
